A: Recent tests on actual homes of clients whose glass was coated before 1972, showed U. V. reduction levels still at better than 90%!!

Q: How do I determine the precautions to be taken given the different U.V. Index readings I've been seeing on the weather news and in the newspaper
A: It's really less complicated than it might first appear. "Time to burn" and "actions" apply to people with a Type II, fair skin that sometimes tans and usually burns. People with lighter skin need to be more cautious. People with darker skin may be able to tolerate more exposure. But even dark skin can burn.

Level Time to burn Actions to take at noon

  • Minimal 60 minutes Apply SPF sunscreen
  • Low 45 minutes Apply SPF sunscreen, wear a hat
  • Moderate 30 minutes Apply SPF 15, wear a hat
  • High 15-24 minutes Apply SPF 15 to 30 sunscreen, wear a hat and sunglasses. Limit midday exposure.
  • Very High 10 minutes Apply SPF 30 Sunscreen. Wear a hat, sunglasses and protectective clothing.
Best time outdoors is before 10 am or after 3 pm.

Not a choice or Luxury … but a complete necessity!!

Remember, these days more than ever, overcast skies can give you and your family a sun burn as damaging as a day with the brightest sun. In other words, bright sun light and heat are not requirements for U.V. Damage.
